Placerville Partial Loop
Hanks Exchange Round Trip
James and his collection of spare tubes.
The hill down into Lotus is lots of fun on the way out, but on the return, an almost 2 mile climb, with 10% seconds is quite gruesome. Once in Lotus there isn't much, mostly historical buildings, the General Store from 1885 is in fantastic condition.
Sutter Mill in Coloma State Park, where gold was originally found in California.
The "Vineyard House" at the very beginning of the climb
Two of the old buildings at the top of Gold Hill, the general store from 1859, and a garage, with a very old truck inside.
The screaming decent on the way home, we paid for it on the way out, a 13% decent for a
couple of miles!
Cold Springs/Gold Hill
Grahams Pear Shed near Gold Hill, down Cold Springs Road.
Sacramento Hill, Placerville
Another 15mph mountain twisties, although unlike the
one down the 49 from Gold Hill, this time it's an uphill climb, one of the
hardest, but short, uphill climbs around, as you can see by the gradient in the
picture on the right.
Beautiful golden meadows, with majestic American White Oaks, this is close to the vineyard at the end of Hanks Exchange.
